After making the United States her home for more than 30 years, Eliane's creative journey has taken her across the country — from Chicago to Las Vegas — before the dramatic landscapes and storied art culture of New Mexico called her in. She now lives in Glorieta, just outside Santa Fe, a place she calls her forever home. Her artistic language is deeply personal and deliberately eclectic. Working across mixed media, Eliane transforms everyday materials — found objects, recycled and upcycled goods, once-worn pieces — into works that pulse with color and emotional resonance. Guided by a lifelong philosophy of Art as Therapy, her creations move fluidly between explosive chromatic energy and meditative, subdued palettes, offering every viewer a different emotional entry point. Eliane is largely self-taught, the product of decades of discipline, curiosity, and an insatiable desire to encompass every art form she encounters. Her practice has evolved far beyond the canvas: she has created wearable art, large-scale installations, and intimate pieces that live in homes and businesses across the world. A thread of social purpose runs through everything she does — she regularly devotes her time to working with people of special needs, using her skills to help individuals of all ages discover the joy, dignity, and self-worth that the creative act can unlock. In Las Vegas, Eliane founded an art community initiative that brought artists together and created lasting connections — a legacy now carried forward by fellow artist Melisa Pacheco. The Painting Process For Eliane Balsewich, the process begins not with a surface but with a feeling. Growing up surrounded by the vivid natural world and vibrant folk traditions of Northeast Brazil, she learned early that color is not decoration — it is communication. That lesson lives in every mark she makes today. On canvas, Eliane typically works with bold, sweeping gestural strokes that establish the emotional temperature of a piece before its subject fully emerges. Whether building an abstract black-and-white composition with her signature wavy line infill, or layering a bouquet of flowers in explosive tropical color, she moves intuitively — letting form follow feeling rather than the other way around. Her floral works in particular reveal a painter in full flow: blooms are not rendered so much as released, each petal a confident stroke that knows exactly where it belongs. But what truly sets Eliane apart is where she takes that energy next. When the canvas is set aside, nothing in her studio is safe. Bottles, shoes, boots, figurines, clothing, and even life-size animal sculptures become her surface — each one receiving the same joyful intensity she brings to her paintings. She paints, embellishes, beads, and transforms, often incorporating found materials and upcycled objects into works that blur the line between fine art and wearable statement.
