"I don't see a blank canvas — I see a blank anything. A shoe, a bottle, a wall, a life. Everything is waiting to become something more beautiful than it was yesterday." · Santa Fe, New Mexico

“Eliane Balsewich doesn't just make art — she makes everything into art. Born in the Northeast of Brazil and shaped by its explosive color, its folk traditions, and its deep cultural exuberance, Eliane has spent decades transforming the ordinary into the extraordinary. A canvas is just the beginning. In her hands, a discarded shoe becomes a statement, a wine bottle becomes a sculpture, a life-size deer becomes a celebration. Her brand, Nativa Brazil Art, is a philosophy as much as a signature — rooted in the belief that beauty is not reserved for galleries, but belongs on every surface, in every space, in every life. Now based in Santa Fe, New Mexico, where she owns and operates Blue Sky Art Gallery, Eliane brings the soul of Brazil to the American Southwest — and invites everyone she meets to see the world the way she does: alive with color, possibility, and joy.”

The Painting Process
The Painting Process For Eliane Balsewich, the process begins not with a surface but with a feeling. Growing up surrounded by the vivid natural world and vibrant folk traditions of Northeast Brazil, she learned early that color is not decoration — it is communication. That lesson lives in every mark she makes today. On canvas, Eliane typically works with bold, sweeping gestural strokes that establish the emotional temperature of a piece before its subject fully emerges. Whether building an abstract black-and-white composition with her signature wavy line infill, or layering a bouquet of flowers in explosive tropical color, she moves intuitively — letting form follow feeling rather than the other way around. Her floral works in particular reveal a painter in full flow: blooms are not rendered so much as released, each petal a confident stroke that knows exactly where it belongs. But what truly sets Eliane apart is where she takes that energy next. When the canvas is set aside, nothing in her studio is safe. Bottles, shoes, boots, figurines, clothing, and even life-size animal sculptures become her surface — each one receiving the same joyful intensity she brings to her paintings. She paints, embellishes, beads, and transforms, often incorporating found materials and upcycled objects into works that blur the line between fine art and wearable statement. The result is a practice with no boundaries — one that spills off the walls and into the world, exactly as Eliane intends it to.
